Chicago IL photographers like myself usually wear many hats - promoter, service provider, psychologist (building rapport during a  photoshoot) and salesman. It’s necessary to be flexible and well-rounded in order to create photographs that communicate a thousand words that are meaningful and lasting. Of course  this isn’t the case with every photo, and every viewer perceives the meaningfulness and lasting quality of a photo differently, but it’s an ongoing pursuit that I enjoy immensely.

I’ve been a Chicago IL photographer for 20 years, and despite many life changes and things competing for my attention, photography continues to fascinate me.

This is John Loebel, owner of Medical Imaging Center in Hoffman Estates. I made a video about his Chicago MRI clinic which you can see on his website at chicagomri.net.

Chicago portrait photography is what I enjoy most. I’m born and raised in this city, and I find the people who live here to be the most photogenic people. This is my stepson Bobby, who at 13 is making the transition from boy to man.

Portrait Photography Chicago is the simple name I’ve given this website. It’s a simple name, and this is a simple website. I’ve been making photographs for 20 years and have been sharing them online for 10 years, but most of the websites I’ve shared photos on have been cluttered with lots of bells and whistles. This will be a departure from those pesky distractions. I hope you enjoy your time here. Your comments are welcome.

About this photo - I’ve lately been getting my feet wet with portable lighting. With this photo, I put a flash on a stand to the right of the model. This provided a good balance between the sunlight behind her and the flash in front of her.
